Affordable Sound Control - one-by pine frames screwed together by three screws in each corner. Fill with Roxul mineral wool to thicknesses ranging from 4 inches to 8 inches. 2 inch thickness batts/bundles come with six 2 inch x2'x4' pieces per bundle, enough to make three 4 inch thick gobos. For corner bass traps, build the frames 2 feet wide and from floor to ceiling. Place in each corner at a 45 degree angle (see photos). Cover each trap/gobo with a breathable fabric (a fabric you can breath through). I like canvas, but whatever is on sale at the bulk fabric store will do. The corner floor-to-ceiling bass traps must be braced at the mid-point with the same pine one-by-stock to add strength and rigidity. You can use 2 1/2" or 3 inch drywall screws, or comparable. I use a drill with screwdriver adapter to drive the screws into pre-drilled pilot holes, and brace the corners with corner clamps to hold pieces together while attaching. Any Roxul (or comparable) mineral fiber insulation panels will do, but Roxul Safe & Sound brand is especially good, since it is fire retardant. Naturally, the covering is not fire retardant, so be careful! Questions? Email me at swamptone@mac.com. Don't miss taking a look at the Photo Album page.
